2024 May Shred Day

Please join us for our semi-annual Shred Day event on Saturday, May 11, 9am – 1pm (or until the truck is full). The event will be held at our Terry Square branch, located at 2775 Main Street in Hartford.

This is a great way to dispose of any unwanted personal documents safely and securely.

Acceptable Items Include:

  • Bank statements/financial records
  • Credit card statements
  • Billing statements
  • Canceled checks

Why is it important to shred old financial documents instead of just throwing them out?

  1. Identity theft prevention. If these documents end up in the wrong hands, criminals could use your information to steal your identity and commit fraud. Shredding these documents makes it much more difficult for someone to piece together the information and misuse it.
  2. Fraud prevention. For example, if you discard intact documents that contain your credit card number, someone could potentially use that information to make unauthorized purchases. Similarly, if you throw away documents with your account numbers and passwords, you increase the risk of unauthorized access to your bank accounts.
  3. Peace of mind. Shredding old financial documents provides peace of mind. You can be confident that your personal and financial information is securely destroyed, reducing the risk of it falling into the wrong hands. This sense of security allows you to manage your finances and conduct transactions with greater peace of mind.

Be sure to always shred the financial paperwork that you no longer need.
